Growing up amidst the vibrant charm of Key West, Florida, has left an indelible mark on my design philosophy. Childhood days infused with perpetual vacation vibes have significantly shaped the way I approach interior design. The seamless connection between tropical flora, painted wooden porches, louvered windows, and the inviting color palette of cottages fostered a harmonious environment. The little pedestrian gates, leading to a world of lush warmth and happiness, became a template for my design ethos.

In each project, my goal is to encapsulate that sense of perpetual vacation upon entry. I achieve this by orchestrating a blend of authentic warm wood surfaces, soft, inviting fabrics, and opulent stones. Inspired by my travels to Europe and Cape Cod, I draw from timeless interiors found in residences, hotels, pubs, and lobbies. Capturing the essence of a place that soothes the soul is crucial—photographing doors, hardware, floors, tiles, moldings, and millwork serves as a visual repository. Design, to me, is about recreating the emotions of those cherished moments.

A core tenet of my design philosophy is that aesthetics need not be compromised due to practical considerations, such as having children. While adjustments may be necessary, incorporating performance fabrics and slipcovered furniture ensures both style and functionality. In my own home, with two teenage boys, I've maintained the same sofa for 15 years and adorned my kitchens with marble without sacrificing practicality. Teaching my children to use placemats and coasters and to be mindful of their surroundings has created a home where everyone thrives, proving that a balance between aesthetics and practicality is achievable for all.

I look forward to working with you.

Sincerely,

Rachael
